Achieving Radiant Skin Through Holistic Practices: Part 3
For healthy, radiant skin, it’s essential to understand that true beauty comes from within as we have seen in the first two parts of this series. By adopting mindful skincare rituals, ensuring adequate rest, exposing ourselves to morning sunlight, and cultivating inner peace, paying attention to our body’s signals, we can nurture our skin and overall well-being.
Nourishing Skincare Rituals:
Contrary to what one would naturally think to be good for your skin, especially if you grew up in the era of stripping all the oil off your face as a fad…using the method of oil cleansing is one of the best possible things to restore a natural microbiome and balance to your skin. Personally, I tried all the cleansers and moisturizers which only resulted in incredibly painful oil cysts and acne that just kept getting worse until I switched to oil cleansing. Now the skin does go through a transition process, as to be expected, but the results speak for themselves. So I would encourage you to embrace the power of natural, oil-based products to nourish and protect your skin. Plant-based oils like jojoba, argan, and rosehip oil provide essential nutrients and antioxidants, supporting skin health and promoting a balanced skin barrier. These oils, recommended by The Spa Doctor (2017), help maintain cellular renewal and reduce inflammation, making them ideal for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Furthermore, oil-based skincare products provide deep hydration, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants, supporting the skin's natural barrier and preventing moisture loss. Oil-based products are especially beneficial for sensitive and acne-prone skin, as they balance oil production and reduce inflammation. This approach aligns with the preference for clean and holistic solutions utilizing nature to nurture our bodies. I will share more of my favorite personal products soon!
The Importance of Sleep:
Prioritizing quality sleep is vital for skin regeneration and repair. Adequate rest allows the body to produce collagen, repair cellular damage, and regulate hormone levels, all essential for healthy skin. Sleep in its relation to skin and overall health cannot be stressed enough. Establish a calming bedtime routine, minimize screen time before bed, and create a sleep-friendly environment to optimize your rest (Walker, 2007). These practices will enhance your skin health and overall well-being.
Morning Sunlight Exposure:
The healing power of morning sunlight is completely underrated in its ability to nourish your skin and enhance overall well-being. Sun exposure stimulates vitamin D production, boosts serotonin levels, and regulates the circadian rhythm, promoting healthy skin and a balanced mood (Assaraf, 2020). By spending time outdoors in the morning, practicing mindfulness, or engaging in gentle movement exercises, you can soak up the sun’s gentle rays and support your mental and physical health. When you start your day off like this it is like hitting your body with a nice caffeine buzz naturally and if you want to bio-hack your way to even more optimal health then get outside in that morning sunlight with your barefeet on the ground and warm lemon water in your hand. This further decreases inflammation in the body and flushes, wakes up and hydrates the body.
Cultivating Inner Radiance:
True radiance begins from within, fueled by self-love, gratitude, and inner peace. Incorporate daily practices like gratitude journaling, mindfulness meditation, or prayer to cultivate a positive mindset and connect with your inner wisdom (Emmons & Mishra, 2011; Kabat-Zinn, 1990). By utilizing this process you will find your facial muscles and tension releasing which could later help deter the onset of premature wrinkles. Embracing holistic living and prioritizing self-care will help you nourish your skin and nurture your soul, addressing internal struggles with anxiety, mood swings, and brain fog.
