The Best Healthy Smoothie Recipe for Breakfast
If its a smoothie, it must be healthy right? I know that is what I thought more or less when I first started making smoothies, I want to note that I think it is also natural for someone to think this when they are starting their journey to health. Well, come to learn that was not quite the truth. If I knew then what I know now I probably would have hired a certified nutritionist as guidance, so if you are on your journey and looking to dive deeper into holistic nutrition and making lasting dietary changes, consider exploring personalized nutritional health coaching. A coach can provide you with the guidance and support you may need. I had blood sugar imbalance issues which led me to put way to much fruit in my smoothies when I started because of the intense sweet tooth I had. I would throw all the fruit you could think of in their. I had my full berry smoothies, my tropical smoothies, a mix of both and more. I would add a little spinach and thought that I was just over the top healthy. Needless to say that I was actually only making my already imbalanced blood sugar worse, while also wreaking havoc on my insulin and blood sugar balance right at the start of my day.
After, learning how to make a balanced smoothie and refining what I do and do not like, how to make it more creamy, what to do to make sure its not to sweet and has enough protein…I have a go to easy breakfast in a blender for you:
Easy Balanced Smoothie:
Half a frozen banana (optional)
Scoop of nut butter
Small handful of frozen berries of choice
Scoop or two of quality collagen or other protein powder
Purified water or coconut water (make sure there are no additives or sweeteners in the coconut water)
Two large handfuls of choice greens (I usually do fresh spinach that I pre-froze)
Scoop of organic greens powder
Scoop of chlorella and spirulina blend (brand I recommend and use code ELEMIROSE for 10% off*)
Can also add in a shake of cinnamon and or turmeric for extra health benefits
Note: I do not use exact measurements.
You can choose to add or take away from this smoothie, but make sure you have a balance of fats, carbohydrates and protein. A good swap for the nut butter for fats would be frozen avocado. If you want to go over the top add frozen cauliflower (if your gut agrees with it), it adds a creamier texture. Extra important that if you are buying frozen fruit, make sure that it is organic and if you buy fresh whether organic or not it is highly recommended to wash your produce first then freeze. All the fruits and veggies I use, I freeze before using in my smoothies. It keeps you from needing ice in the smoothie.
Enjoy!
