Benefits of Lemon Water

Warm lemon water first thing in the morning is possibly one of the best things you can do for your body when starting your day. Why is this?

First thing to note is that when you are sleeping this is the time in which your body detoxes itself. Each organ detoxes at approximated specified times during the night, but we are also naturally dehydrated upon waking in the morning because we have gone all night without water. So, how does the body release from the body all the toxins that have been processed out throughout the night? It does this through flushing the kidneys, your bowel movements and sweat. When we drink warm lemon water in the morning this has a revitalizing effect at cellular level and aids in re-hydrating and flushing the body of toxins, giving us the ability to actually be rid of the toxins for good. If we do not hydrate in the morning the body reabsorbs the toxins therefore increasing the workload on our systems. The water does need to be room temperature or warmer because if the water is cold it causes constriction of pathways in the body and takes your system longer to process the water.

Personally, as I have made a habit of drinking warm lemon water in the morning I have found that it actually also acts as a stimulant to my system. Which has been shown through to actually be a literal benefit of drinking lemon water that I did not originally know about. It is one of the reasons I have been able to completely cut coffee out of my diet and remove that dependency on caffeine, which I already had a sensitivity too. I am not promising that this is the case for everyone, but you may notice this too as time goes on.

Note too, that the lemon water should be consumed right after waking and if possible a half an hour before consuming anything else other than water. This gives the body time to do its thing.

Other health benefits of lemon water is that it has been shown to increase immunity, decrease inflammation, support digestion, improve weight loss and help with clearer skin.

Some fun twists to add a pzazz to lemon water is adding a teaspoon of chia seeds for added hydration benefits, adding a small pinch of salt for remineralization, or adding a splash of apple cider vinegar for the benefit of you digestive track. There are many others ways to spice things up, but most of the time I just stick to my warm lemon water for simplicity’s sake.
